関西を拠点に活動するジャズ・ピアニスト／作編曲家 牧知恵子 は、クラシックに裏打ちされた豊かな表現力と、ジャンルを超えて自在に展開する柔軟なスタイルで知られる。国内外の多彩な音楽家と幅広く共演・録音を重ね、その演奏は繊細さと力強さを併せ持ち、聴衆を魅了してきた。

京都に生まれ、幼少よりクラシックピアノを学ぶ。同志社大学在学中にジャズと出会い、軽音楽部やビッグバンドでの演奏を通じてジャズへの情熱を深め、表現の幅を大きく広げた。

2003年には渡米し、ニューヨークの The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music に留学。現地ミュージシャンとのセッションやライブを重ねるなかで、芸術性を磨き、国際的な視野を培った。この経験は彼女の音楽的アプローチに強い影響を与え、以後の活動の核となっている。

帰国後は、関西を中心に全国でライブやコンサートを行い、ジャズクラブからホール、フェスティバルまで幅広い舞台に出演。自己のプロジェクトに加えて、多様なジャンルのアーティストとの共演や、作曲・編曲、レコーディングなどにも積極的に取り組んでいる。

その音楽は、クラシックの精緻な感性とジャズの即興性を融合させ、しなやかで自由な響きを生み出す。常に探究心と柔軟さをもって音楽に向き合い、新しい表現を模索し続けている。

Chieko Maki

Based in the Kansai region of Japan, jazz pianist and composer/arranger Chieko Maki is known for her classically grounded, rich expression and a flexible, genre-transcending style. She has collaborated extensively with musicians from around the world, in both performance and recording.

Born in Kyoto, she began studying classical piano at an early age and discovered jazz while attending Doshisha University, where her passion for jazz deepened through performances with the university’s light music club and big band.

In 2003, she moved to New York to study at The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, where she spent a year honing her artistry and broadening her global perspective through collaborations with local musicians.

Since returning to Japan, she has continued to perform, compose, arrange, and record, while maintaining an inquisitive, versatile approach to music.
